MIA LIU & ART PAPER

Mia Liu

"In her work, Mia Liu enjoys exploring the hidden world of every day objects
By examining mundane items through a different angle"

"Liu reconstructs the simple and ordinary into the elaborate"

"I pay close attention to the visual influence of light on material. This will lead to the distortion of people usual perception on daily objects, and eventually, a wonder comes into being"

"Light and material circulating and moving, and audiences are forced to look at the moving focal point. They will never be able to see the whole but can feel the difference in between."

"While she enjoys drawing freely, her fascination with textures led her to use paper as her primary medium for these amazing pieces."

"Taking recycling to the level of high culture, Liu reinterprets the objects used to gain access to the world of art into the artwork itself."

BY SOPHEAP PICH

Cambodian Rattan: The Sculptures of  SOPHEAP PICH The Metropolitan Museum, NYC (2013)

Artist Sopheap Pich takes inspiration from his home country – Cambodia. Select every day object in South East Asia such as chicken cage or bamboo hat to be his material for work since 2005. This piece of work you can see in The 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2009 is made in 2007, the third year of making sculpture drifting apart from the painting medium. From the experiences, he cut rattan into four parts and knit them all together with wire by hand. The name of Delta as title is a symbolic way of  expressing how important it is the river in the city.
The way Pich hanged the work makes this river-shape sculpture looks just like a flat map on the wall. Beautiful and nature to human beings. What is the meaning behind? Come and find out....Read more
